Overview:

During my therapy sessions, I often use projective cards by Story and Therapy to provide an alternative means of expression for clients who struggle with verbal communication. These cards help my clients express themselves without relying only on words.

Instead of struggling to find the right words, these cards let clients show how they feel by looking at the pictures and symbols, which bring up emotions and thoughts for them. It’s like using images to go beyond the limits of words.

Therapeutic Process while Using the Projective Cards:

Our therapeutic process involves both verbal discussions and metaphorical work, where we explore your concerns in a non-directive way. For example, we may use metaphors such as roads to represent stages in your career journey.

For instance, if you are feeling frustrated, I might suggest selecting a River card to represent how you feel. Together, we will examine the card and discuss factors that can help you work through your frustration.

By incorporating visual elements into our therapy sessions, we can gain a deeper understanding of your emotions and experiences.

Therapeutic Importance of Projective Cards:

  • Projective cards are a valuable tool in my therapy practice, providing an additional channel of communication for clients.
  • Verbal and visual modes of expression are incorporated to create a more enriching therapeutic process.
  • Metaphors of rivers and roads are helpful in representing the flow of emotions and life paths.
  • Clients share personal stories and experiences during therapy sessions.
  • Projective cards allow clients to share their concerns visually and explore their experiences in new ways, leading to new insights and deeper understanding.

Benefits of Projective Cards for Children:

  • I work with children and adolescents and use projective cards and story cards to enhance therapy. – “The World of Trains” set is a therapeutic tool specifically designed for children to express their issues using metaphors.
  • With these cards, children can communicate through techniques such as art, role-play, storytelling, and verbal conversation.
  • The cards are not diagnostic tools or tests, but are meant to help children express their thoughts and emotions through both verbal and nonverbal means.

Benefits of Projective Cards for Adults:

  •  The projective cards that I use in my therapeutic work can be a valuable tool for adults in therapy, as they allow exploration of personal, social, and professional issues through relatable metaphors.
  • During our sessions, I’ll guide you to express yourself in both projective and direct ways, so you can share your concerns and expectations from the therapeutic process.
  • The visual representation of the themes we work on can help you identify your strengths and work towards your therapy goals.
